Dr Shayan Shahand

Researcher (PhD candidate)

Shayan Shahand obtained his bachelor's in software engineering and his master's in computer engineering. Since 2006 his research interest lies in the e-Science, parallel computing, and distributed systems such as grid and cloud computing. From 2010 he is working at the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam as a researcher and PhD candidate.

The focus of his research is "Science Gateways", especially to facilitate data- and compute-intensive biomedical research. Science gateways are web-based interfaces to a community-specific set of tools, applications, and data collections that exist and run on distributed computing infrastructures.

They aim at increasing the utilization of such infrastructures by providing customized and easy-to-use user interfaces that hide the complexities of underlying systems from the end-users.

You can follow Shayan's publications on Google scholar or Mendeley. To learn more about his research and related activities of the team he works with please visit http://ebioscience.amc.nl/.
