Prof. dr. Alan Hanjalic

Dr. Alan Hanjalic is an Associate Professor of Multimedia Technology at the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. He was a visiting scientist at Hewlett-Packard Labs, British Telecom Labs, Philips Research and Microsoft Research Asia. His research interests are in the area of multimedia information retrieval where he (co-)authored more than 70 publications, among which two books (Elsevier 2000, and Kluwer 2004).

He is on editorial boards of the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, Journal of Multimedia and Advances in Multimedia. He has also been a (Lead) Guest Editor of Special Issues in the journals such as Proceedings of the IEEE (2008), IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (2009), Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation (2009) and EURASIP Journal on Image and Video Processing (2010). He has also served in the organization committees of the leading conferences in the multimedia field, such as ACM Multimedia (Program Chair 2007, General Chair 2009), ACM CIVR (Program Chair 2008), WWW conference (Area Chair 2008), Multimedia Modeling Conference (Area Chair 2007), and IEEE ICME (Area Chair 2007). He was a Keynote Speaker at the Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia, Hong-Kong, 2007, and an invited member, organizer and chair of the panels at ACM Multimedia (2007), ACM CIVR (2008), and the Picture Coding Symposium (PCS) 2007. He is the leader of the BSIK MultimediaN project “Video at your Fingertips” and a co-initiator and a member of the coordinating board of the FP7 Network of Excellence PetaMedia.
