Alejandro Moreno is a PhD student in the Human Media Interaction (HMI) group of the University of Twente, The Netherlands working in the fields of computer vision and human computer interaction. His research interests include the analysis, understanding and modeling of human behavior (motion, gestures, postures) from video to develop innovative, engaging and interesting ways to interact with computer systems. In 2011, he received a joint Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Saint Etienne, France and Gjovik University, Norway after winning a full scholarship from the European Union to enroll in the Erasmus Mundus Color in Informatics and Media Technologies (CIMET) master program. From 2007 to 2009, he worked at the Information Technologies Center (CTI-ESPOL) as a research assistant in the Human Computer Interaction group where he carried out research in the field of natural user interfaces using computer vision.

His current research is aimed towards the automatic analysis of human social behavior and tries to bridge different fields such as computer vision, social signal processing and entertainment technologies. Specifically, he is studying social interactions of children during play in the context of interactive playgrounds analyzing, mainly, group dynamics and proxemics. He addresses the problems of sensing children's non-verbal behavior during play and interpreting the social interactions they are engaging in. This information can be used in the automatic evaluation of social interactions or physical activity levels in interactive playgrounds, or given as feedback to the playground so it can react to specific events and change its mechanics to induce desired behavior.
