Large masses of people

Roland Geraerts, researcher in COMMIT/project VIEWW, conducts research into the planning for large masses of people in realistic 3-D environments such as urban areas or train stations with multiple levels, like Utrecht Central Station for example.

At the request of the Secretary of Homeland Security, a delegation of people have come to find out whether we can also conduct simulations of large athletic events. It would be interesting to be able to run a variety of scenarios for that environment. For example: imagine that a bomb explodes at a certain point. How would people react? Or if a fire breaks out, what are the optimal escape routes and where should specific individuals go? We can use the software to calculate all of these factors.
